Programs & Roles
Connecting Davenport High Students to Careers
I work with small groups of Davenport High students, helping them explore their strengths, navigate teamwork, and tackle obstacles as they chase their goals. Every student is supported, challenged, and prepared to take the next step. I joined them for “Commitment Day,” where we cheered loudly, celebrated big, and honored every path forward: college, the workforce, the trades, or the military. The Davenport High community is committed to helping each student grow personally and academically, preparing them to be competitive, contributing members of society. I’m always thrilled to return to the Broncos, ready to support their growth every step of the way.
District Advisory Council – Polk County Public Schools
As a Council Member, I support the district’s strategic initiatives and help facilitate discussions that connect schools, families, and the community. I work with leadership to review progress toward goals, provide community-informed feedback on programs that impact equity and student outcomes, and help highlight needs while celebrating successes. Through this work, I help strengthen connections across the district, support literacy, readiness, and whole-child development, and ensure every student has the opportunities and encouragement they need to thrive.
Haines City Senior High School Career Advisory Board
As an advisory member, Helen helps bridge the gap between school and community, creating meaningful opportunities that inspire future leaders and strengthen connections between education and the real world. She advises on program relevance, highlights employability skills, and connects educators with local employers for guest talks, job-shadowing, and internships. By reviewing curriculum projects for authenticity and industry alignment, Helen ensures students gain practical experience and valuable portfolio work.
Through her efforts, students benefit from new community partnerships, hands-on classroom-to-career projects, and exposure to real-world tools, expectations, and professional networks.
Internship Experiences with Drive The Goal, LLC
Drive The Goal, LLC has provided unique hands-on internship experiences for students from diverse pathways, including a dual-enrollment high school/Polk State College student and a participant in partnership with CareerSource Polk. Interns gained exposure to entrepreneurship, business operations, human resources, marketing, and community engagement, exploring how small businesses collaborate, manage clients, and build professional networks. They attended Chamber events, participated in workshops, including helping to facilitate a workshop in Clermont. Focused experiences with law enforcement professionals offered insight into crime scene procedures, forensics, and career pathways, while mentorship and real-world engagement helped build practical skills and a strong foundation for career-focused growth. Interns receive a complimentary resume makeover and links to scholarships as part of their experience.
